How inspect7® can be implemented?

Our tagging system paired with our cloud-based portal creates the perfect digital solution for scaffold tower inspections. The inspect7® device attaches directly to the tower and is as quick and easy to use as paying with a contactless card.

Using our App, the inspector simply needs to tap an inspect7® device or label to start an inspection. Utilising the custom questionnaires, you can ensure that a thorough inspection is carried out on the scaffold tower system which meets all requirements of the governing bodies and the manufacturers. Inspection time scales can also be set to every 7 days once the tower has been inspected after assembly to match these requirements.

Using the online web portal, an authorised user can access all the inspection information of all devices registered to that project. Here a visual dashboard provides key device data such as due, failed and overdue inspections to help prevent any oversight. That way you have peace of mind that the correct people are doing the correct inspections at the set intervals.

All this information is sent to project users in the form of a Daily Digest. Using the location data of the devices and connecting data from weather sources, inspect7® is able to alert you when there has been a meteorological event that may affect your tower, allowing you to conduct an immediate inspection.

The online web portal also allows guests to view the status of the inspections, so once the tower is set up, anyone using the tower can check its status to ensure it is safe for them to carry out work using the equipment. This also extends to client access so that you can have complete transparency with your clients.

All the inspection reports are stored in the system for future use. They can be turned into reports for self-evaluation on all your projects or be shared digitally with whoever requires them.

Using our task system, reporting issues or damage to the scaffold tower can be conducted by any member of staff given access to the project. They can either tap the device with the App or use the web portal to add a task. A title, description, images, required date and comments can all be added to the task. This can be assigned to the inspector (or whoever else is required) and our notification system will send a push (App) notification and/or email.

Tasks aren’t limited to just issues. Need a different access solution? Assign a task to the correct person. It’s simple to use our system for more than just inspections.

How often do Scaffold Towers need to be inspected?

HSE states that all scaffold towers must comply with the standards required for all types of scaffolding. Inspections must be completed once the tower is assembled and then at regular intervals by a competent person. If the tower has been erected for construction work and a person could fall from a height of 2 meters or more from the working platform, then the inspections must be carried out once fully assembled and then every 7 days.

This also means that scaffold towers are regulated under the Working from Height Regulations 2005 which states:

“Every employer shall ensure that, where the safety of work equipment depends on how it is installed or assembled, it is not used after installation or assembly in any position unless it has been inspected in that position.”
- The Work at Height Regulations 2005, Section 12

PASMA, the international not-for-profit association for the mobile access tower industry, states that inspections should also be carried out every time there has been a “significant alteration to the tower, before use and after an event likely to have affected the towers stability or structural integrity”.

Depending on the type of Scaffolding Tower and where it is being used will also affect what type of inspection needs to be conducted and how often. For example, if it is a Mobile Scaffold Tower then the castor breaks need to be checked before use to ensure it remains perfectly stationary when in use. Or is the tower is used outside then strong weather events can affect the stability or structural integrity of the tower, so it will require another inspection before use.

All inspections should be carried out with the Instruction Manual to ensure that the tower is built correctly and follows the safety requirements that the manufacturers follow. Ensure that a copy is available on-site.

All inspections must be recorded and include the all the data to comply with the Work at Height Regulations. These inspections must also be provided to the relevant parties. These include the client whom the scaffold tower was built for and most importantly, to any worker who is using the structure to undertake work. This is a legal requirement and needs to be continued until the structure is dismantled then stored for an extended period of time after.
