When you see an Inspect7 Device, you might wonder, “Why is the Inspect7® Device yellow?”.

A construction site is often a busy environment and having a highly visible tagging system is essential to cut through the noise to deliver critical health and safety information. When you dig a little deeper the psychology of the colour yellow, its standardisation in the health and safety industry, and visibility is a very interesting topic.

The Psychology of Yellow

Colour psychology studies colours and hues and how they impact human behaviour. Research shows that yellow is a colour that naturally grabs attention, but it is shown to have other impacts on human behaviour. It is believed that yellow stimulates the left side of the brain and helps foster analytical thinking.

That, in our opinion, is the perfect trigger response we want to activate in our customers, especially just before an inspection. Greater analytical thinking leads to higher quality inspections, creating a safer working environment.

Visibility and Safety

Construction sites are dynamic environments, often filled with dust, debris, and various machinery. In such settings, having a colour that stands out against different backgrounds is essential. Research suggests that yellow is the second most noticeable colour at a distance, behind green. However, when the light gets darker, such as early mornings or evenings, yellow becomes the most visible. Yellow has the highest luminance value, which helps it stand out and contrast neutral backgrounds. The visibility of the Inspect7® Device is highly critical in any light condition and all year round, aiding inspectors and users of the tagged systems.

Industry Standards and Practices

The choice of yellow in the construction industry is not arbitrary. It aligns with various industry standards and practices to promote safety and efficiency. Yellow signage is used within health and safety to show specific dangers that could occur when in a workplace or with certain substances. Following this standardised practice, having yellow devices and labels will make workforces using the system consider its safety and check its inspection status, preventing any accidents.
